Common causes
- Electric power steering sensor or motor fault
- Low power steering fluid (hydraulic systems)
- Low battery voltage
What to do
- Steering will still work but may be very heavy, especially at low speed.
- Stop when safe, restart the engine and see if it clears.
- If it stays on, drive carefully to a garage or call for help.
Can I keep driving?
With great care, at low speed, if you can steer safely.
