The brake pad wear sensor has detected that pads are close to their minimum thickness.
What it looks like
A circle between two dashed curved brackets. Colour: Amber.
Common causes
- Worn brake pads
- A damaged wear sensor wire
What to do
- Book new pads (and usually a new sensor) soon.
- Listen for grinding: metal on metal means pads are fully worn and discs will be damaged.
- Have the discs checked at the same time.
Can I keep driving?
Yes, for a short time, but book a replacement promptly.
MOT
Brake pads below the minimum thickness, or a pad wear warning, can be an MOT fail.
Symbols vary slightly between makes. Always check your owner's handbook. General guidance only; if in doubt, call your breakdown provider.
